Default Changing Rear Wiper

Hi All - I’m trying to figure out how to change the rear windshield wiper on my 21 Defender and for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to get the old one off? I put the wipers into service mode, but there’s no visible clip or anything to release the wiper blade. I can’t find any guides or videos on how to switch this out. Any help is appreciated.

I think it just pops out. Press fits. It doesn't slide in either direction.

Like slightly raise the arm off the glass. Then grabbing both sides of the wiper blade you're trying to replace, try popping the arm towards the glass. That's what I did and worked altho a little fiddly.

Careful not to bend the plastic wiper arm by bending it too far out.

You def don't have to take the spare tire off, which at one point I thought.

Note: One thing. My 2020 has a standard wiper. Some of the newer ones have an aqua blade type of thing where the squirters come out of the rubber blade. Just realized... those may mount differently, unsure.

This is completely hilarious...

Unbelievable that LR would stop making the original rear wiper blade and require the update.

Hah, I was the one that told Simon about this change a while back and he said he'd do a video on it. I was also shocked that they discontinued the old wiper blade, but the updated one is so much better. My dealer covered the cost on it, too.

My son is about to graduate with a Industrial Mechanical Engineering degree. He's always wanted to work in the automotive industry. I've done the appropriate parental duty: since he was 12 I've used him as my minion and wrench monkey when working on my vehicles. I've FREQUENTLY cursed the engineers who do these types of design folly that impacts the mechanics & DIYers. I will disown him if he ever works on a vehicle or part that winds up like this. There are WAY too many engineers (maybe it's manufacturing accountants) who are clueless to the downstream impact.

Just watched the video. I used to follow Simon religiously, but haven't in months. When did he get a green Defender?!? Did he buy it, paint it or wrap it? (Sorry for not spending the time researching his videos, but I fear I will wind up watching three days of videos because I have ADHD around Defender info...)

It’s his 2020 110 - had a wrap job.

btw there has to be some sort of legal / regulatory issue with NLA parts on vehicles still under warranty. I wonder if thats why jlr covered the new style arm for the guy in the thread here. Pretty sure for the warranty period parts (or redesigned parts in this case) have to be avail (?)

Initially my service advisor told me that JLR wouldn't cover the blade, which all the parts and labor was quoted just under $500. I didn't want to pay that because it wasn't fair that they changed it without telling people. My dealer agreed to cover some of the cost; which I agreed to, but when I took it in for the replacement my SA told me that they were able to cover it under warranty.

Default Rear Wipers on early L663 - dealership

No such luck with my dealer covering the cost. Local dealership is attempting to hand over a bill for $280 for replacing the rear wiper blade on my 110. Svc advisor insists I have to pay for a new wiper arm, a new hose, and a new cap (and the new blade of course) to update it to the later style. Of course $280 is not a big deal grand scheme but this is ridiculous - my car is still under the 4 year / 50k new car warranty.

I called LR customer care and in less than 3 minutes, and a lovely chat, the rep gave me an 'owners loyalty certificate' to cover the complete cost, parts and labor, of the repair at the dealer.

Why I had to have 4 phone calls with the dealer, and a customer care call to make this happen, I'm not sure but if anyone else is facing this "quandary"... try this .
