Default D300 Low Engine Coolant

2024 D300 X-Dynamic HSE 110. Purchased new February this year. UK based.

A few weeks ago I had the Land Rover assistance chap come out to sort something on my wife's RR, whilst there he gave my Defender a quick once over and noticed the coolant was a little low (no warning messages on dash). So he topped it up, which was kind of him!

Today, just got in the vehicle and immediately get a dash warning saying check coolant. I look under the bonnet and it is bone dry, as in zero nice pink liquid. Just an empty tank.

I have the assistance chap coming out later today. But i'm sure I recall a thread on here some time ago about this very issue... and it being a serious (engine replacement) situation. Something that sometimes happens to these engines? Does anyone have any experience / knowledge of this they can share?

TIA

Some people find that their coolant level drops from High to Low over time.

However
lf your coolant tank is empty then there's definitely something amiss.
What did LR Assist say when they came out to it?

LR Assist guy did block test (all fine), did a pressure test on the reservoir (at 8 psi) and said everything was fine, no leaks. He said it couldnt therefore be a hose or radiator and certainly nothing serious. He reckoned it must be a faulty cap. So he replaced the cap and said all good to go.

I then drove it for 10 miles, checked under the bonnet and the reservoir was empty again. This time I could see pink liquid pouring all down the left front suspension parts and dripping down onto the road. Quickly snapped some photos and video just in case.

So now its going on a flat-bed back to the dealer tomorrow. Only 3,000 miles on the clock... rather disappointing.

Sounds like the auxiliary radiator, have heard of a few failures of that part.

Yes for 4 yrs now. They tell me it's normal. But I can't believe it is good for the engine. It's in the shop today and it was bone dry with no warning indicator. Warranty almost up so I make sure it's recorded each time. Usa based

Update: After having the vehicle for 8 days the dealership have now come back saying they believe there is an intermittent fault with the cooling fan, which they are now going to replace.

Forgive my ignorance but how exactly can a faulty fan cause all of the bright pink liquid to pour out of the bottom of the vehicle?

lf it overheated because the cooling fan wasn't working the coolant may vent out of the expansion tank.

But l would think if that happened you'd get an engine overheat warning.

Temp has always remained dead in the middle. There has never been an overheat warning... Just constant loss of coolant. And visually you could see the coolant all dripping down the left front suspension parts onto the ground.

I have a 2023 Defender 110 S, 4 cylinder, U.S. based, and experienced the "low coolant" light issue at about 36K miles. LR dealer service first told me tested you're fine and "they use coolant ya know", but the light kept coming on with no apparent loss of fluid, next time they replaced the coolant reservoir and sensor but the low coolant light kept coming on, and now with my 42K service they "found aux radiator leaking" and replaced that and the deflector, which tracks other comments here about that aux radiator being one source of micro or slow leaks that trigger the sensor (sensitive little guy that it is). Anyway hoping that is the fix that sticks.
