Expedition Roof Rack (VPLLE0007) extra height? And/or, garage door tricks
Have a bit of a problem here - with all the fine details about how to install it, they forgot to mention how much extra height does this roof rack add. Google doesn't produce a reliable answer either, the best I could get was "about four and a half inches".
Well, my garage door opening is exactly 6'9", and if I trust the "vehicle dimensions" screen then the raw vehicle height can change from 6'3" to 6'8", which puts me somewhere between "barely squeezing through" and "expensive catastrophe" with the rack on.
Can the information on the "vehicle dimensions" screen be trusted? Can I rely on the vehicle staying at "access height lock", or it may under some circumstances (say, dead battery) revert to the default height?
Worst (or, rather, most expensive) case scenario, what are the known tricks to increase the door opening height if the headspace inside is limited? This gets heavy right off the bat - likely a pair of 2x12s will need to be relocated upwards and/or reinforced, I might need new rails, and relocating the door spring anchor plate might get quite interesting. Thankfully, I've already installed a side mount opener so that part is taken care of, but that's also a mixed blessing.
I adjusted my garage door up a bit using its instructions. I'm a bit tall with ski rack on.
Now I lower to bump stops as needed if i have a lot of skis up top.
About access height -40 or 45mm
Access height stays for as long as you need it. To be sure, just use the lock feature. Good to 15 or 18mph I believe.
It took me a bit of time to read the comments on those videos claiming the extra height is 4.5", and further to find this image (original credit). Thanks a lot for the seed.

The +67mm is quite a bit more than my own measurements at +53mm but both are in the same ballpark,
I did a deep dive into this before buying too. Short version is when the my 110x with stock 19” Goodyear DuraTracs is in ACCESS height it cleared easily WITH roof rack. It would ALSO clear in REGUAR drive height. My garage max height to the door trim 83 1/4” (2.11m), and this obviously varies as does the open adjusted height of the door
1. Distance top of LRD roof to top of Expedition Roof Rack: distance noted will vary depending on where on a roof ridge one measures. The measure meet it then at the lowest roof ridge feature.
2. Distance from top of LRD Expedition Roof Rack to top of parked surface: This dimension will obviously vary with wheel and tire size. Dimensions shown to ground are with new, 18” BFG KO3 265/70 installed. This is obviously the critical dimension
3. Obviously garage door clearance varies with home/garage. I did have my garage door opening height adjustedso it cleared the external garage door trim.
Basically I”ll never hit the door itself - the door trim isn’t safe but easily replaceable.

I'm seriously thinking about attaching a loudly crushable object in front of the door trim. The fact that the driveway and the garage floor are not in the same plane makes things more interesting
I have a hunch that fixing the door opening once and for all would be simpler than to keep watching whether the vehicle is at access height for the rest of its lifetime. Already learned framing on earlier home projects, so it's an incremental change, not that big of a deal.
If reframing is a practical option (cost, related structure if any like a second floor, time, etc etc) they yah, a taller opening will always be easier. The idea of a Nurf Bar for the garage header is an interesting notion :-D
I never worry about it. I know at Normal height it’ll go - just - provided I’m EASY on the gas so not as to excessively bump the suspension. But I choose access height for piece of mind and convenience. Reminds me of an instance with my FJ Cruiser and wife took it to work. I KNEW having done it - the FJ fit in the office parking garage without touching. She comes home says “I hit the clearance ht sign” When I asked if she had gone dead slow over the bump below it as we had tested - “NO” was the answer with a smile :-D

Thankfully, it's a standalone structure with no second floor and freedom to do whatever I want with it

I was thinking about the opposite (not to protect, but to give its life to protect), but reading your sentence I remembered about this:
