Honestly, I do not see that much cars with failed headlights and most I see I can tell they are aftermarket ones. Should not be happening with these in a 2 year-old car. For now, my solution is to run with headlights on all the time - even with sunny skies. That seems to reduce a bit the one-eyed awkwardness and consequently my embarrassment.

Yeah. Took to my dealer and they say halo is shot. Fortunately the actual headlight still works. Put in the request for new headlight and it can take anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months...who knows. My SA says he saw a couple like this in the passenger side, but never in the driver's...whatever. He also says they are more expensive than the ones in a full size RR - a new Defender headlight is close to $5k - glad I am under warranty. Now, to wait with a one-eyed pirate.

Retail it appears headlight is around $4000 MSRP - https://www.myroverparts.com/oem-par...xlY3RyaWMtZ2Fz

That's expensive!

I'm in Los Angeles and see no less than a dozen Defenders a day. I see at least 1 with a broken halo every day. I hope they figure this issue out by the time my comes in.

I've seen a few driving around South FL with broken DLR. Doesn't seem to be Land Rover exclusive, as I'm also seeing BMW X5/X7 with the same issue.

Both of mine went out last year, within a couple of months of each other. The first - driver side - failed at 49K miles so was still replaced under warranty,, the passenger side was on my dime, though. Dealer gave me a $4k quote to replace it, even though my warranty has expired just weeks before. Typical Land Rover dealer goodwill that we all love. I found a used one in excellent conditions on eBay for about $800 and replaced it myself in 15 minutes, still a lot of dough for a single headlamp but it felt like a gift by comparison, and luckily it's a plug and play part, no coding or programming required if it comes from another vehicle. Been over a year and so far both of then are still working, but I am not hopeful for the long term based on my experience.

If anyone wants to match the burned out halo on their driver's side headlamp, I have an otherwise perfectly functional passenger side with burned out halo still in my garage, free of charge (only the half-moon headlamp halo is out by the way, somehow the two turn signal "square halos" are still working.) 😉

Ugh...I feel you. I do not care what anyone tells me about warranty-cost-math in re. cost benefit vs. what you pay, when I am close to expiration, I either get a good exclusionary extended warranty or trade in for a new one. I can understand the argument to skip extended warranties (my wife's 2017 4Runner warranty is long gone and I am perfectly comfortable with that), but IMO LRs without warranty in place are ticking bombs.

The LR4 headlight housings were made by Valeo. Wonder who makes the Defender ones?
