I think there is some sort of mythical anecdote over these headlights. Sure they are expensive, but I do not believe they cost 4,000 pounds (or dollars for that matter). Powerful UK sells usually at a very close price when compared to LR. Maybe the "Matrix" version of the Headlights maxes out to that price, but the "regular" DRL-enabled, IMO, do not.

Just got ours fixed a week ago today. Ironically, Land Rover hosted an event 2 days before at Windrock, about 11 Defenders there. So about 3 months, wife hated driving it around so I rode my bike a lot and she drove my Bronco. There was another like mine with a DRL out too. Not the best look for them.
But the event was great. Catered food, free to enter, lots of fun. They're hoping to do more events in the future.
My dealer confirmed that the headlight was $4000 through them when I had my last one replaced under warranty. One of the Jaguars (think it was the F-type) has a $7000 headlight assembly. Just crazy. Minor front end collision and the insurance company is looming at $8k just for replacement lights. No wonder new cars get totaled for what appears To be minor damage.
l wonder how the manufacturers arrive at these parts prices
Its almost as if they want the vehicle to be a total loss in the event of any collision.
Certainly once it's over five or six years old a front end collision would mean a total loss.
A headlight unit for my old Defender was £15. This is largely because it was a standard round light unit as fitted to many cars at the time. So the manufacturer couldn't artificially raise the price, because the part was available at any motor factor.
+ whatever LR are charging for the installation for folks who get their dealer to do the swap. That's a royal PITA.
I assume once one light goes, the other is likely not far behind. Maybe not.
Regardless. These should not be failing after such short time periods. Not fit for purpose.
OH yeah. If you buy two there is your $4K. However, with the ludicrous dealer rates LR charges, I am sure you are right - even buying only one, the final bill will get close to $4K when you add up labor, taxes, fees, etc. I am getting ready to bite the bullet on the extended warranty. Either that or I trade in. NO way keeping the Defender without a warranty.
I had an incident with my Porsche several (15ish) years ago that required the replacement of one of the HID headlight assemblies. The part cost was about $2200 IIRC. At the time, Porsche sold a HID upgrade kit with both assemblies for about $1400. I’m just sayin’
IID tool absolutely works with the new defender. You can code the DRL's off if you'd like.
Anyone know what config needs to be changed to turn off the DRL with the GAP tool? I mess around with MultiCAN-468 FntDRLType but couldn’t get the halo or side marker lights (on the one light that’s working) to turn off.
