The front undershield mentioned above exposes the front "recovery eye" (that's their term for the tow hook). Here, the picture is self explanatory: LAND ROVER ACCESSORY FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

PS: It's not just the shield, there's more to it - follow the link.
PPS: I've misread "denied" as "disabled" - I can easily see this happening when you get stuck in the mud and can't get that plastic shield off in a hurry.
