This is also where to hook up the battery maintenance for a Cetec or similar battery maintaining charger. I leave the car in the garage several months a year with no issues.
Here's a pic of page 21 of the Vehicle Recovery Guide. Also attached because everyone should have a copy in their glove box!
Thanks for this awesome document. Very useful. To be more clear, I know the locations of the jumper posts under the hood. I have had to use them. My question was, how are people “permanently” attaching their Battery Tender leads or CTEK leads to these posts? - they are not threaded posts. (My impression has been that folks are “permanently” attaching charging leads). Obviously alligator clips can be used.
My redneck solution - used Ctek comfort connect, negative eye on random bolt at top of shock tower with nut to secure; positive eye fits tight on jump post just by itself, cut a notch in the red box so the top closed properly. Wire runs under the black rubber "T" shaped plug in the front cowl. No need to open hood to attach charger.
@Norsk tapped the most convenient point but it may not be secure enough for some because it's difficult to thread anything onto it. If you back up a bit there is a black plastic cover that you can tap into. You can see it clearly on this Link. You will likely have to trade out a larger O-connector but that's an easy switch (recommend the heat shrink type). One MAJOR caution. Disconnect your battery before playing with this and make sure you have an in-line fuse because it will be able to draw a LOT. My winch is connected into the empty location on the left of the image. Also if you go to the left, you can get your own fuse, likely much lower than the 450-Mega that's in the pic.
EDIT: On second thought, the right mega fuse may not be there. Check, but this is a prime access point either way - provide your own fuse and all the normal obvious disclaimers.

Thanks for this awesome post and excellent detail. My truck set for months also and the fear of no power has haunted me to the point that I pay people to check on it fire it up. I am definitely moving to this very inventive and creative solution. By the way, regarding the rear storage cubicles, would a one liter Nalgene fit?
I'm going to say "probably". I'll check it next weekend and send a pick. Here's a pic of the "original" plumb version with a 525 Firebeater fire extinguisher. At ~9 1/2 height x 2 1/2" diameter it is roughly the same as a liter Nalgene at ~8 1/4 x 3 1/2". Ymmv. That fire extinguisher has something mounting it and the nalgene is fatter. Ping PowerfulUk for interior dimensions or I'll take a measure in a couple weeks.
Definitely fits most 750ml liquor bottles. May just have to rethink your hydration choices.
