anybody else running into similar issues
I've been experiencing the same on my new 2025 Defender, my truck came with the hotspot and data plan. It seems the phone uses the car's data to stream music resulting in cutouts that I've never had on other wireless CarPlay systems. Phone calls also sometimes sound bad and I believe the phone is using WiFI calling. Not sure why the built in data is so bad!
Something is going on with these. JLR changed something in their system in the past few months for sure.
Try turning OFF mobile data but leave the wifi/hotspot on (which you need for CarPlay, as you know). Worked for me recently.
Mine was fine until maybe November 2024. About 18 mos ago, my hotspot ran out and JLR tried to ask for $400 a year to continue it. I declined. I never however turned off the "mobile connection" in the vehicle. All was fine.
Then -- recently I started not being able to get emails on my phone, streaming was dismal, my phone web browser wouldn't load simple websites, it was as if my cellular had no connectivity or very very low connectivity. Odd because it had full 5 bars. But was still connected to vehicle wifi while on CarPlay.
Then I started to notice my car radar detector which was still connected to the vehicle hotspot was updating its nav database again. Slowly, but it was happening. This stopped immediately after JLR demanded the $400 a few years back. Anyway -- So I deduced that car was providing the radar detector with connectivity again of some sort after going completely dark (zero connectivity) once JLR shut me off.
I think something has happened where they turned the connections back on with a trickle of connectivity -- and that's screwing up the works. It is REALLY annoying not to be able to get my emails to sync on my phone in the car. Almost unbelievably annoying. The sec I turn off wifi on my phone, everything blazing fast.
So by turning off that mobile data slider it solved the issue for me. Now -- if you still are supposed to have an active mobile data account with your new 2025 Defender, that is a different problem I'd think.
I've experienced issues similar to these (my subscription also expired). Sometimes the car wifi works great, others not so much. Turning off the wifi on the phone or in the car helps. The opposite also seems to work, which is to cycle the wifi in the car off and on. In any case the inconsistency is very frustrating. I'd be great if someone found a way to swap the SIM in the car for your own personal one.
so i have tried turing off the mobile data on the pivi but no improvement. only thing that works is turning off wifi on the phone but disconnects carplay.
im glad its not just me and mine did start having issues around Nov 2024 also
