I would consider the GAP tool, but I can't justify paying over $500 to solve this one annoyance. I really have no other foreseeable needs that I would use the tool for and if it is VIN locked I couldn't use it to help others. @stevemfr if you want to sell a "one file only" version for $100 I'd probably be willing to do that, although I am also concerned that future OTA updates could change or invalidate a back-end CCF change (not likely, but possible).

I have moved on to looking at the CAN bus. It seems like this might be the best way to fix it. A small custom PCB with a tiny MCU and a CAN transceiver chip (like a MCP2562FD) that plugs into the ODB port and just sends the off command at car startup. That seems like "a better way to push the button"

It would be a hard pass for me on any future vehicle purchase on a vehicle that has had CCF coding done to it. Past owners monkeying around with "Custom Programing" is one of the key reasons to get a PPI done on a vehicle before purchase.

You sure a PPI will pickup CCF modifications? I highly doubt it's part of the standard PPI checks.

You'll need to tell the person doing the PPI to compare the "as built" file to the CCF in the vehicle...

I can understand your position - though I am willing to bet that you'd find numerous uses for the IIDTool especially over time. I hope you can understand our position too: getting to where we are now required quite an investment and we can not afford to sell the IIDTool for less. It's actually only comparable to diagnostic systems costing 5 + times as much.

BTW, the IIDTool is not VIN locked for normal diagnostics; only special programming functions and functions surrounding lifting or lowering the EAS are VIN locked.

Yes, your product is very reasonable for all that it does and I have nothing but respect for the investment and energy required to bring physical product and software to market, especially to support a niche community like JLR. IIDTool is in a totally different league. I design embedded systems and software (for rockets not cars) and would never consider creating a "consumer" product given the effort, support, and investments required to productize it and satisfy Joe Public. That said, since you guys are already in the business you might consider creating a super low cost "single use" device that does not require the same iOS/Android app investment or technical support -- like a small ODB dongle that shuts off auto-start/stop on power-up. I bet a lot of people would pay $100 for that but would never buy the full version of GAP IID. It would be opening up a new market with little overlap of the existing market, assuming you can get the volumes you need and the margin economics to work. Food for thought.

That's literally not a new market. All that would do is cannibalize their core offering to cater to price-busters. This isn't a Toyota. It's a low volume niche market and it's a wonder anyone tries o crack it. There's no way in hell they're getting rich on this product.

This forum is hostile. So far, as a group, we've managed to run off The Insider, that guy in Houston that manages a Land Rover dealership who was extremely helpful, the guy from Plumb, and a couple others that I can't think of right now.

This is really not personal @Mojave. Please don't take it that way. It's really a group thing.
