More for the looks. Some people go with new wheels with negative offset. If you don’t want to change the wheels and spend the money and want the better look you go with spacers.

It's for looks. Just like equipping recovery eyes on a vehicle with 22' wheels and steps. A bit pointless, but it does look good.
