I am in Europe so have the opf version but I too have the Milltek on a V8 and have done around 2,000 miles.
Long story but I briefly had the non-res version but found the drone too much even though I loved the rest. Switched to res but now find it too quiet overall. I’ve decided to have a lot of urban stuff fitted - WX1 rims, light pod, spoiler, side steps and branding package so feel like I might as well have the beast with all the noise. Therefore I’ll refit the non-res version of the milltek at Urban.
The non-res and the res versions by Milltek have drone. No two ways about it. Even milltek admit that and it’s between 1,000 and 1,500 rpm when on coast or deceleration in any driving mode. Rest of the time the exhausts sound great in non-res and less so in res, but no drone any other time. This translates to bad drone at 50mph or so on a motorway unless you change down a gear. The non-res has more drone but they both have it at those revs. Yes, drone is subjective, but we will all hear it, so it’s really whether we can deal with it. Over the last few weeks, I’ve got used to the non-res drone and kind of think of it as a power noise so I’ve convinced myself to go back to the non-res version but…. I’ve agreed with Urban when I collect the car that I can test it on a motorway and see if it’s ok at a steady 70-90mph where I drive mostly. If it has drone there, which I doubt, I’ll switch back to res as I can’t face hours of drone personally. I’m not sure anyone would but intermittent drone is ok and probably why some say there is no drone!
As Ehloo says the Milltek is not a night and day exhaust and sounds the same in comfort and dynamic mode. The only time the valves are closed is when not in dynamic mode and not under any acceleration or much power. Then they close and certainly do at idle. So in the real world except at idle or a slow coast, when valves are closed in comfort mode, rest of the time they are open, ie. 95% of the time probably.
Lastly, the main reason why the Milltek is worth it and I’d never go back to stock, is the power increase. It’s very noticeably more powerful and responsive and revs much more freely. I’ve owned an SVR and I’d say it’s similar at around 575bhp.
I have a full fat lwb RR on order so my reason for tricking out the Defender as a loud toy, is because it will become just that. If it was my daily driver on the long journeys I do, I’d never go Milltek or Urban but then I’d never go V8 either. The RR is ordered as a D350, more torque than the V8 and twice as economical… but won’t wound as good!!
ended up purchasing oem euro spec wide fender flares from powerful uk color matched them narvik gloss. these do not have the side markers. I wanted the clean look. then PPF them.
this was a very costly modification and much more than expected. i had tried some of the knock off options out there but the quality/ fitment wasnt there
switched out my wheels to some 22 inch LFI custom forged wheels. 22x10 et 30. wheels were built to have a very similar fitment as my Black Rhino Chase 20 inch set ( wheels for sale )
i do prefer the 22 inch look. i don’t do much off-roading if any.
ended going with the Nitto Recon Grappler. fairly new tire and they are marketing as in between the Terra Grappler and Ridge Grappler. not many reviews out there and they are always subjective
i was promised a pretty quiet ride. i have to say they are not that quiet and as for now louder than my k02’s
i have realized AT tires are very sensitive and a slight change to air pressure can make huge difference is noise
so messing with that right now and see if they get better
they do have a nice aggressive side wall and tread pattern
I think it's safe to say if you're looking at putting on painted fender flares is going to be $2500 - $3000. They require a lot of fairing in stock form to look good with gloss paint. One tip for people is to just have the PPF provider do the US spec side light markers in a dark tint. Makes them disappear while still leaving US spec set up.
i came a little over 3000. the paint cost was much higher than expected
the ppf installer wanted to install the flares first. they flex too much if not installed

You had my undivided attention at first. I read the start of your post and was quite intrigued. "Ended up purchasing oem euro spec wife ..." Didn't end like I was hoping it would.
V8's are cool and all. I guess, mentally, I'm just a bit of an old fart curmudgeon.
Off road tires on never-to-be-off-roaded 22"s and 3k for some shiny coverings on the slightly wider plastic bits is a bit beyond my small-minded horizon.
I have a mate who goes to underground carparks for RC Fight Club, so I guess it's different strokes for different folks.
Hobbies are fun. Money is for spending. I suppose I do understand.
v8’s are definitely cool. I wished i had less horse power no one said
All terrains are not off road tires. they are for all terrains. some street tires would of been more suited for the use but the all terrains are more suited for the overall appearance
i never expected to spend 3k on the fenders. just ended up that way.
everyone spends money in their own ways. cars is mine. Everyone’s horizons look a little different
