V8 Roll Call
My CE gets into Brunswick Monday, should be at my dealer at the end of next week. Unfortunately I’m leaving Monday for a three week west coast trip so I went by today to give them delivery instructions (basically touch nothing till I get back). A black 23 V8 with satin grey wheels was there about to be delivered and it looked fantastic. I’d paint the skid plate if it were mine but other than that it’s perfect. Congrats to the owner.

I believe any Defender V8 delivered moving forward is a 23 by default, but I could be wrong.
My Milltek system is on. You might expecting some pictures and videos but unfortunately i have nothing for you yet
but some quick feedback and some info for those that don’t like reading pages of a thread
I am located in the US non opf/ppf car. Ordered a resonated center box and straight pipes. Milltek is modular depending what you like. There is no videos of a US car with the system. I am probably the first with one in the states
OPF/PPF are filters to reduce noise and carbon particles. it reduces sound dramatically. So with prior experiencing with a Milltek on my p400 Defender it was too loud without the resonator. So decided to purchase both resonator and the straight pipes and decide which way to go.
Resonator was installed as the first option and a good decision. It’s the perfect amount of volume and a much cleaner sound compared to the Urban videos. Straight pipes would be way too much with no OPF
i only have 30 miles since install and once i get someone to help do some videos i will post them
One interesting thing i found out was that in comfort mode it kept the valves open. Of course Dynamic also. Only way to get the valves closed was to put in ECO mode. I have never driven in Eco till today as i was trying to figure out how to shut them. but when i turn the car off and turn it back on in comfort they are closed. I wonder if they do open and close while driving or once open they stay open
Seems really odd to me but i never checked my stock exhaust to see if that’s just how it is
if anybody has a minute could they verify if the valve is closed in comfort mode on the stock system
More feedback as i put more miles on it

for me both versions do drone. A vibration like a feedback loop on a mic is a drone and the Milltek’s certainly do that between 1,000 and 1,500 rpm when not under power, I’ve found. Comfort mode is worse as it drops revs down to there more than dynamic.
I’ve been looking at ways to eliminate the drone and it seem a J pipe is the way. I calculate 50 cms long will do it but need to find someone to make it. There are formulae online and it seems right to me. That would for sure enable the non-res version…
milltek themselves admit to the drone as I called then and asked. The drone is more pronounced on the non-res but it’s there on both versions. I’m hoping I’ve got used to it enough as I really want the non-res version. As I’m in the U.K. the filters really make the res version quite tame but it’s louder and deeper than stock for sure,
One big advantage of the Milltek is the power and response gain. It’s very noticeable. I used to own an SVR and I’d say with a Milltek power is back to 575 bhp and much more responsive overall than stock.
On the valves, I believe they are closed in comfort as noted when switching from comfort to dynamic at idle, but…. under any sort of power they open anyway so the sound is exactly the same in comfort and dynamic. Eco is like comfort for me but changes up quicker and down slower. Main benefit of dynamic is the much tighter suspension and steering. Dry nice and with 20in wheels no harshness at all. Not sure about valves open or closed in eco. I suspect same as the other modes.
ill try to create a custom road mode tomorrow. I’d like dynamic handling but without the dynamic engine response as I find it holds onto gears too long. It might be though the configurable custom modes are only for off road.
I’ll try to upload videos of my U.K. sounds.
I’m in the U.K. and as you might remember from my long account I have the resonated Milltek also fitted for now. I plan to retry the non-res version soon and see if I can handle the drone.

Great pictures!!
My 23 arrived last week in Canada & cannot wait to get it.
Will definitely paint the skid plate.

It’s an interesting wheel choice for a V8 build as the owner specced the off road tires with the 20” satin grey wheels.
Hello again! I just agreed with you on the X5 forum, but I have to say the P400 I6 does have plenty of power. I recently ordered a V8 M50i but I wouldn't order a V8 Defender given the odd spec of zero roof load capacity. We need a roof box for skis in winter and sometimes put 2 bikes on the roof since we only have a 2-bike hitch rack.
