Where and how to mount a phone in view?
I think Powerfuluk's offering that mounts to the side of the display is the most elegant solution, and I will get one of those - thank you!
Responding to the "just use CarPlay" comments above: Yes, sure, as a first-time user of that I'm still figuring out what I can do with it. It's a revelation to just say "take me to X" or "Call Y" or reply with a text by voice and have it actually work. Anyway, I still also want a charger mount that doesn't practically set my phone on fire!
Thanks again.

You have to lock the car with the key fob to get it to release your phone. If you use the button on your phone screen to switch to “speaker” or “phone” away from CarPlay, the car is likely to take the phone over again. That happens to me more often than I care to admit.
Totally on board with your way of thinking. Today there is very little need to take your eyes off the road to perform nearly every task, so the issue of where to mount a phone seems moot. Even in the most basic vehicle all it takes is a voice command to send a text, initiate a call, put an appointment on your calendar, search for a restaurant, gas station, etc. Now in our Defenders, with Siri, Alexa, Google, anyone can do nearly any task by voice. Most days I don’t even take my phone out of my pocket; once it is recognized by Pivi I can scroll through my music library, check my voicemail, texts, calendar, all without taking my eyes off the road. I love the fact that as soon as I start my Defender, my iPhone connects with Pivi and I can access all aspects and features of my device without taking my hands off the wheel. Being able to change the ventilation fan speed or temp on the AC/heater or volume UP/DOWN, among many more abilities is what these vehicles have enabled us to do. I wonder what percentage of Defender owners take advantage of these features. The technology exists, just have to use it.
In the screen there’s a climate control option that you can use to modify settings via the touch screen
Now if only there was an option for one rotary to control the global temperature setting and the other to always and only control the fan. Modes (push a button to select whether it's temp or fans) are almost always worse than single-function controls, and "dual zone" climate control in the small space of a car is a bit of a gimmick. But I guess that ship has sailed long ago.
Those darned clouds in the sky must be yelled at! (But I am getting to know CarPlay a bit, anyway.)
