Was heading to the garage yesterday evening, looked out the backdoor window...and my hand stopped short of door ****...thought, screw it...l need a day of rest. I'd worked my "donkey slange" off Monday and Tuesday! Kind of a pisser, since it was 55 degrees here yesterday...and it would have made for nicer working conditions. Oh well, such is life.
My wife is heading north for four days with her sisters (if you believe you heard a faint hurray...it wasn't me...and l'm standing by that story until my last breath, understood...lol), so l took Thursday and Friday off. She's like..."l leave...and you take off work?" I'm like..."Yeah, l wanna to get some stuff done in the garage." She's like..."We could have done something special together on those days." I'm like..."Yeah, but l don't get anything done...when we're together." She's like...silent. l'm like...odds of me ever tasting a home cooked meal again are getting mighty slim.
As you can imagine, we have a lot of..."She's like", "I'm like"...situations around here...lol.
Okay, time to go fire up the heater in the garage (17 degrees).
Replaced front crank seal. Leak made the Exon Valdez spill look lIke a minor incident.
Swapped a few more things over, passenger mirror assembly, idler/tensioner and belt, couple better looking hoses, rear ladder, tire carrier and a few other odds and ends. Took to car wash for degreasing and wash job.
Clean and dry...just the way it should be.
Doesn't seem like l accomplished much, but it is, what it is.
Not sure if l'm going to put the high-lift jack back on the tire carrier or not. It is a beast. Never noticed any difference in the rear door ********, but it was ******** some when l got the rover. Oh well, time will tell.
1) Relocated the washer bottle and replumbed/rewired.
2) Ran interior winch control wiring harness through firewall (must be done before relocating washer bottle...grommet is just below bottle).
3) Removed front sway bar and installed skid plate.
4) Wired up winch and mounted solenoid pack in factory jack location (temporarily, since l need to change battery terminal ends for larger 01 battery set-up).
5) Removed SAI manifolds and plugged fittings in heads.
6) Installed rear extension on roof rails.
7) Took for road test and smoked a cigar.
8) Took some pictures.
Since everything is pretty much a repeat of the 01 build, no sense going into great detail about swapped items. The only change that was somewhat new, was the adding of the rear roof rail extensions. Pretty straight forward, remove rear plastic piece above rear door (just pulls off), then remove both right and left rear window interior surrounds (a couple screws, piece behind seat belt mount and about six/seven push pins). This allows access to the rear bolting area. Drilled a small pilot hole from inside, centering in exsiting hole, then went up top and used a holesaw to cut away outside sheet metal. You only go through the first layer, stop as soon as it cuts through. They have plugs in the rear mount of the front roof rails, where the rear extension mates, just drilled out the rubber plugs...there is no pulling them out...they're about an inch long. Add some adhesive around mounting hole in rear and slid front pin into mounting hole in forward position and slide the large washer that goes beneath rail extension in new hole and then guide rear bolt of extension through new hole. Install nut/washer inside and tighten. Reinstall interior pieces.
10) Took a shower and l'm taking a long hard look at the two beers in the fridge.
