Installed new front driveshaft from A1 in Milwaukee. Very well built unit at a great price point and fully serviceable.




Also replaced the rotoflex as the existing one had some good cracks. The one I got from Lucky8 had the arrows in the opposite direction as the OEM unit I pulled out which was curious. I reinstalled it but used the bolt orientation as OEM.

I also had the headliner redone. After I pulled the the old liner out both sunroofs show evidence of leaking and the spout has broken off a couple of them. The spares I had are also brittle so ordered a new set.



Rear AC was also capped off and changed out the dryer for good measure. I removed all the rear AC components.

 

Completed the interior refresh while I wait for additional suspension components to arrive. All sunroofs are now functional and leak free. New headline is in and fixed the sagging nets in the back and swapped in new front seats that I pieced together from my donor vehicle.
All my interior dome lights didn’t work either. Not sure what the problem was but someone replaced the front sunroof motor at some point and I think removed a ground from the dome light. Now they all work consistently which is nice.

Installed a Southdown snorkel this weekend. All went pretty smooth and it’s a well put together kit. I ordered directly from Southdown for just about $295 shipped. It was cheaper then purchasing from domestic suppliers. Some pointers:

- the template provided is close but the hole needs to be extended in the bottom left edge so that the plastic moulding fits the wing properly
- make sure the pipe is completely seated into the plastic moulding.
-Remove the air box so that you can properly attach the reducer and use lots of sealant/adhesive.
- loosen/remove the inner wheel well liner so that you can help guide the flexible hose through the wing.

My truck had aftermarket pillar trims installed at some point which are thicker/larger than stock and there was no way it would fit with the door closed. I had to remove material to get it to fit properly. Not sure it would fit well even with stock pillar trim as the screws that come with the kit have a thick pan head.

Looks good, those are the better looking snorkels in my opinion. Only thing better would be a cyclone top. Trucks coming along good

 

What's the deal w that front shaft? You think it's better quality than the standard Lucky 8 part? Or at least a little cheaper than a Tom woods?

 

I think just about anything would be better than the standard lucky8 part...had a brand new (sub 5k miles) crap out on my drive from CO to VA somewhere in KY.

 

Ditto. I have mixed feelings about Lucky8. Shipping has always been good but the parts I get sometimes have not been what was advertised on thier website and the quality is dubious.

 

In my opinion yes, it’s an extremely well build shaft and no balance problems. The price is also very good compared to other options.

 

Reading my mind. Going to visit an exhaust shop to get a bend added to the top and get a classic mushroom intake. Overkill for highway except in downpours or really dusty conditions.
