Well, I guess it depends on what your overall use for it is. I think it would be really cool to have only the driver and passenger seats up front and the back completely stripped out of everything, like the back of a utility van.
Level the floor out like the pic above, keep the walls and ceiling bare metal, strip everything you don't need, or what isn't needed rather. You could customize it the way you want and have a pretty sweet set up.
Still need to be able to use it as my daily and transport at least 3 people total. With the LR3 you do get a flat floor with the seats folded down in the middle row.
Needs to be capable of that for sure. I will be ditching the rear seats I believe. I feel like that is the right answer for storage. Hard wiring in a bunch of accessories.
I am debating on a dual battery set up that the fridge could run off of leaving the main battery untouched as a just in case.
Today we pulled the CB, antenna and antenna cable from my Original LR3, along with the wiring relays etc for the front lights so we can start laying out the electrical. My Dad is back in town and we are isolating of course to be on the safe side. So he will start running wiring etc like this in his free time when my daughter and I aren't there working. So now we have shifts going on this thing lol.
He and I discussed adding a dual battery system so I am going to do a bit of research on that.
Picture of my current LR3 just because it looks so good when it's washed up body damage and all.
I think a dual battery system is a no brainer if running a fridge on top of the normal lights/winch additions. If nothing else a fantastic bit of piece of mind. Especially considering the myriad of issues weak batteries can cause on LRs (at least the D2 that's true). With everything apart it makes sense to at least run the cabling...doesn't mean you have to put it in but if you decide to then you saved a massive headache down the road.
It's actually pretty easy on these to toss in an extra battery. There is a perfect space on the drivers side in the covered section that houses the abs and master cylinder for at least a group 24 sized battery. Cables would be just as easy to tie in as well. I keep going back and forth on this as I am trying to keep the budget somewhat in check and I haven't even got to sorting out the mechanical bits yet. Think I am going to give it some thought and possibly address a dual battery set up when we get under the hood
The newer fridges should have a cut off that wont allow the battery to drain if left on, so there's that. I would think a dual battery would be a good idea for the fridge and other accessories.
It does have a cut off and looking at reviews of the power draw the truck would need to sit roughly 18 hours before I would be in trouble
Rear rack lights and wiring are showing up tomorrow. Ham Radio should be here in a couple days as well. All the carpets are cleaned and I think from there we can move forward with reassembly.
What do you guys think of the wood accents they put in the later LR3's?
A package of awesome showed up on my porch this afternoon. Hella Valuefit line LED lights. These will be going on the rear of the rack as area lights and I may tap into the back up lights as a secondary trigger. Should really light up the area for setting up a tent or backing up!
