Got a screaming deal on a plasma cutter. Can’t wait to build my sliders and rear bumper now!
Pulled out the powerplant to fix the contractor.
Curious about using these p38 headers
The inside of the flange to pipe looks very restrictive, I could probably weld and grind them smooth. Would take some time tho.
Started pulling the ancillaries off the 4.6

I started to tear my 4.6 down. I’m not that impressed at how dirty it is
Perhaps someone with more experience could tell if this much caked on ( burnt) oil is normal?
I haven’t pulled the bottom apart to check the bearings yet
This was awesome........... found it in the cylinder head, above an intake valve. Looks like it was there for a bit. No question about rebuilding heads with new valves now.

That crusty build-up is pretty common nowadays, with the increase engine operating temperatures over the years and lack of quality oils being used...you get this result. Especially as vehicle ages, the owner is less likely to spend the extra bucks on quality oil and when you take into consideration the cooling system is not working at 100% efficiency anymore. Everything use to run at 180° "back in the day", now it's common for engines to run in the 210° range, or higher. Remember going to a oil seminar several years ago...(yes, l lead a very exciting life...lol)...and they talked about oil breakdown for each addition 3° of engine temp with dino oil. But, with the increased protection from synthetic oils...it was cured (mostly). This is why, in my humble opinion, you should never stretch out your oil change intervals if you are using non-synthetic on a modern engine (1990 or newer).
The hose clamp is just an extra, all high dollar rovers have this option. If you have a cooling system failure, you just pop the upper and lower manifolds off, retrieve clamp, repair leaking hose and off you go! The British...they were way ahead of the game in this brilliant type thinking.

Damn curious what these little grind or port marks are on the intake ports. Anyone?
The cylinder walls look great to me. Still see cross hatching, don’t feel a lip on the top
pulled the heads off last night, thanks to Brian’s advice was no problem. And I did use nitrile gloves thanks to you guys. I only pulled them off for the pics
