Had enough time today to get my garage ready get the truck ready and pull the upper intake/valve cover. Every thing looks normal so far. I'll get a helper to crank so I can watch the valve train in action.
As I said this engine is pretty damn clean inside.
You said choo choo..... I wonder if the head gasket let go on an inner cylinder? Mine did that three different times, let go on an inner cylinder. A burned valve can also cause low compression - injector.
If you do go the lifter/push rod route - yes a new cam would be the right thing. You'll have new faces on the lifters - riding on worn lobs otherwise.
As far as the Defender, what axles does it have? 12 spline?
As far as the trap, somebody would find bleached human bones in those hills one day........
That sucks all around but the important part is everyone will heal up.
The trapper should die in one of his own devices....
The rover trouble shoot the motor, if it's toast do a compression check on the spare motor. If it checks out do the head gaskets and get back rovering.
Thanks gents. Yea this was a **** deal for sure. Luckily the dogs gonna be ok. That's all I care about. I do agree the person who set that out...is coward. I hope he's on some kind of watch list. It takes a special type of person to purposely inflict that sort of mayhem on an animal.
The Rover part is just icing on the cake. I need a working compression gauge. Mine took a dump while laying in the drawer not being used. Naturally.
I found a lot of raw gas in the lower intake and the stacks. I knew the truck was running rich but didn't think that rich. I'm thinking I might replace the injectors while I'm in here. Is there a good upgraded spray pattern injector available? Nothing performance related. This thing will never be a race car.
Hope the pup heals up soon. We deal with these types of traps in Michigan, or worse...the conibear...quite often..which grabs the dog by the head and is probably five times more difficult to release than the style you encountered...especially by yourself. Usually kills the dog within minutes, so time is of the essences in these cases.
