Worlds longest slowest 110 build thread
Have you thought about swapping the 1.4 transfer case for a D2, early model (99/01 with CDL) that has a 1.2 ratio in high range (believe low range is still 1.4)? There is a slight modification that needs to be done, drilling two holes and tapping them for the parking brake cable, other than that, l believe everything else is a direct fit (there's plenty of videos showing the swap). I have one out of my old 01 and everytime l'm going 65, max speed, my mind wonders why l haven't swapped it yet. Most info l've read says it adds about 10/15 mph top-end. Makes first gear more bearable, too, not many stumps need pulling out anymore...that thing is stupid low. You'll like the fifth gear though!
Oh, and I'm coming down there and powerwashing that undercarriage...everytime l watch your videos l cringe just thinking about all of that dirt falling in your eyes.
Are you swapping the rear axle for newer style disk brakes? EDIT: Saw anwser on your instagram.
And yes...a few of those engineers that decided on slotted or Phillips screws on the floor panels and tunnel...need to be bit*h slapped! Sometimes l believe we messed up helping to stop the germans from invading England...they could have helped them immensely in the engineering department...lol.
Keep up the good work, Bill...you're killing it lately!

The 1.4 case never made it in the shop. 😂. It has a 1.2 out of a disco 1 in it. Spoiler alert but yes Disco axle, up rated axles, drilled and slotted rotors and a locker regeared for 35s. Front will be the same but with vented drilled and slotted rotors
i hadn’t messed with the parking brake yet so I will have to look into that. Thanks I’m doing what I can but running out of time fast

Yup back in the day I would have killed to have a 1.4 now it’s sitting on the shelf with no real plan for it maybe I’ll toss it in the D1 sometime.
@The Deputy oddly I did hit the underside with the pressure washer before it went in the shop. Wire brush and anger seems to be the only thing that works😂
LT85 getting cleaned up repaired and slotted home

Yeah, that red dirt you guys have down there is like nothing l've ever encountered up here. We have much friendlier dirt, l guess...lol. The engine l bought from Alabama was coated with it, engine degreaser was the only thing that loosened it up. High pressure soap alone at the car wash...did nothing...but cost me quarters. In most cases, excessive RTV is a compensator for "lack-of-confidence-in-workmanship" or "more-is-always-better" crowd.
I think that stuff was from Ohio😂
on the transfer case side there was even. More and they made a gasket out of it to mate the trans and transfer case all very odd

So the next thing we learned kids is that the transfer case mount is not the same on the early 110. So I was going to be in the hunt for another hard to find part. When I saw the pic of the part I had a plan and some quick work with the angle grinder made a disco mount into an early 110 mount.
hoping the trans mount will be coming soon. First vendor wasted 2 weeks of my time saying they had it but never seemed capable of shipping. They finally admitted they didn’t have the mount and refunded me but I lost a lot of time I didn’t have. Now I’m patiently waiting on Craddocks to get the part in a box and on the way
While we are waiting we are working on other parts I was going to reseal the rear glass but they won’t budge

Waiting on the mounts before we get started on modifying the tunnel panels, but hey a laugh is a laugh
The transfer case is in. If anyone does this swap there is a specific mount for the lt230 for the defender. You can use the disco one but it will need to be cut to clear a body mount
