In Australia the Disco Series 3 (your LR3), in various guises ran out here from September 2003 to March 2005. The naturally inducted 4.0 litre V8 unit was limited to the very early Series 1.
In the Series 2 the 2,5 litre Tdi continued the V8 4.0 continued but with Lucas fuel injection and the MPI version was dropped from the stable due to lack of interest.
Series 3 introduced the 4.6 litre V8 and the 5 cylinder TD5.

The LR3 was not introduced here until 2005, it came with either a petrol V6 or V8.
The V6 was a carry over from the Ford Explorer and the V8 was from a Jaguar.
V8 was the 4.4L and I do not know what the V6 was.
And oddly enough, the V6 only got 1mpg better than the V8 because it had to work so hard.
