Alternator rebuild??
I replaced my Alternator to fix my flickering lights problem. I decided to pull apart the old alternator that still works, just makes the lights flicker, and see what I can find wrong.
1) brushes have worn down the slip rings quite a bit,
2) capacitor on the output terminal is cracked in a bunch of spots,
3) regulator has a black line across it that looks like a burn mark.
diodes seem to check out OK. same with the field and stator.
Think I will try a regulator/brush assembly and see if it works for a spare.
Anybody have any suggestions??

A spare is always a good idea. Alternators seem to grabbed first by partz vulturez that fly low and fast across the boneyard (get there first or go home empty handed).
My indy alternator shop takes a piece of crocus cloth, and holds it to the exposed copper parts while spinning, using a popsicle stick. Just a touch to clean them up.
