Anti-Lock Light

Anti-Lock Light
Here is an odd question...
When I bought my '97 Discovery, the Anti-Lock light was on, not a big deal...
Today, I started the vehicle, and, the light was off, I was amazed, until I started driving down down the road, I hit the breaks and it felt like it was, grabbing, sticky, "popping" and the pressure was sporadic. I know this sounds odd, I'm just not sure how to really describe the feeling.
I just checked the brakes, and everything looked in good shape, I bled the system and it was air free... The anti-lock light still isn't on, and the breaks are still, sporadic.
I obviously missed something, what should I look at?
Thank you!

there are some other post/threads in here on that too.
sounds like a sensor(s)
pin layout ( on mine for sure) . Pin
no. 1 is at the lower right corner, pin no. 8 is at the lower left
corner, pin no. 9 is at the upper right corner, and pin no. 16 is at
the upper left corner.

I could be a multitude of items. I have the same problem, when the light is on the brakes work, when the light is off things go crazy.
You can use a paper clip to connect the #5 & #15 connector on the OBD connector. It will give you a flash test. I believe the details are in the sticky section. This will point you in the right direction.
I removed the ABS fuse in the engine fuse box and drive it with the light on. The ABS pump won't engage and you'll never have the crunchy sporadic brake issue.

it takes a bit of work but once you have them working they work quite well,
1st off (other than checking the ABS codes)
gently tap the front sensors down, this is a common issue,
they popup when the knuckle bearings and shims have problems (too loose) so take care of that also or it will happen again.
Another issue I found with 4 front sensors (grabbed some from the scrap yard to try to fix my abs) is that the wire breaks right where it goes into the sensor, you cant see it as it broken inside the insulation, this causes either not working at all or working sporadically, and false signals to the ABS ecu that makes them kick on exactly how you are describing it
If your handy with a soldering iron, you can file down part of the hard plastic on the sensor, carefully cut away the insulation, and solder the broken wire, i usually then use liquid electrical tape and hot glue, i have rebuild a few this way and they work well after.
