Default Battery cable question

So today I went out to my truck and noticed my battery was dead, So i flipped the switch for the secondary battery and she started right up. Turns out the boys decided to turn on all my lights on and leave them on.

I shut her off and went to hook up the battery charger and noticed the cable running from the fuse box to the battery and terminal were very hot. The cable from the alternator was fine and the cable from the stater to the battery was also fine. Just the smaller cable to the battery.

Would this happen because the battery is dead and its pulling more current than if it was fully charged? Or do I have a bigger problem?

welll...maybe hard to say without seeing how you have it wired....but the wire was hot because it was definitely carrying a lot of current ....

It is wired just like it came from the factory. That is one thing I have not changed.
