I'm having a battery drain issue on my 97 D1. It's a three year old intestate battery and 3 year old alternator. If the truck sits for 2-3 days the battery drains down to about 6 volts. Do you guys think it's a wiring issue, battery issue or alternator problem? Any common spots to investigate if it's the wiring?

use a dc voltmeter to check the battery voltage while the engine is running....it should be over 13 volts....that means the alt is ok for now. You could just have a poor battery...that can be tested too with a load tester.

 

Ok thank you. I'll check tomorrow with my MM. It would be easier if it's my battery, but disappointing if I only got three years out it.

 

FWIW - In my opinion, Interstate batteries suck. I've got one in one of my cars and it's acting a lot like yours is. No battery drain issues either - verified by me with an ammeter. I prefer Wal-Mart, cheap, and they take them back in exchange for a new one with no questions asked. Again, that's my opinion - take it or leave it.
