Default Coolant drain - water pump bolt question

Hello,

After watching an Atlantic British video on draining coolant for the Discovery 1 to do a Coolant drain, I didn’t see them talk too much about the bolt being removed and what to expect (e.g., a dam bursting with fluid or...).

To anyone who has done it this way, should I expect a jet to come shooting out and should I attempt to cover the belt in front?

Thank you for any and all help

I've always just pulled the fill plug on the radiator, snaked a small diameter tube down to the bottom and siphoned out the coolant.

That is the best way and no mess. Just add a 5 gallon bucket to the mix.

Have you used the coolant chemical cleaners to dislodge any of the crud in the system?

dislodging crud comes with the risk that the crud will lodge itself elsewhere. Perhaps someone more critical.

You can have the radiator cleaned, rodded, or re-cored. Or buy a cheap aluminum model on ebay.
