Default cooling fan of disco 1997 300 tdi

Hello
I need to replace the cooling fan (the main one in front off the pulies) of my disco 1997 300 tdi but it seems that the main bolt (the one on the shaft) is glued.

What would you reckon? must I force like a madman? can I apply some heat?

is there a risk that I can damage the water pump with heat? or some joints in the engine?

thanks

emmanuel

The water pump bolt (at least on the V8s) is released by turning toward the same direction the fan spins, in our case anti-clockwise when standing in front of the grille facing the engine. We attach a suitable wrench, and pull up on the fan belt or wedge a rag in the fan belt and pulley, then strike the wrench quickly and sharply with a hammer. The "pop" breaks it loose. Strong and steady force will simply rotate everything, and lead to madness, vile language, consumption of more adult beverages, etc. Don't heat water pump, nose bearing with built in lubrication.

Do not use heat, use a air chisel to vibrate the rust loose.
The threads corrode onto the pump and basically become one, you need to break the corrosion loose.
The first time I took mine off I had to take it to a small shop and have them remove it, then I drove home with no engine fan and put the new one on once I got home.
$10 cash took care of the "bill".

The 300 should have a left-hand thread on it.
