I don't even know what the cruise system consist of haha. I just know there is a switch, and the switch is broken.

Where is the system under the hood?

The cruise ECU is inside the cabin, the rest is under the hood, a vacuum pump and vacuum lines that connect to the throttle.

Which box is the actual cruise ECU? Is it the one with the 'Hella' label? I usually equate Hella with lighting but it also has a Land Rover label too.

I fooled around with my system some more today. I lowered the glovebox and took a look in there...wow, lots of junk in there!

What I found is that my switch is getting power (12v) and when I push the switch on and off I can hear something clicking behind the glovebox. However the light on the switch never lights-up.

Still thinking cruise ECU? Oh, all of my components appear to still be intact under the hood.

I finally got my cruise control working on my 1995 Discovery 1. I had a electronic expert check out my cruise control module and he said it was fine but it still didn't work. I replaced the cruise control switch, the brake light switch, checked all the vacuum hoses etc. but still nothing. A 1996 Discovery 1 appeared in my local Pick-N-Pull so I grabbed the cruise control module and plugged it in and BINGO everything worked. BTW the module is located behind the glove box just to the left of the Main ECU, the cruise control module is bolted on sideways with two 6mm nuts. I hope this helps!

Did some light reading in Rave and it appears I am looking at the correct ECU.

Also noted that the switch itself has two tiny bulbs in it. Maybe mine are burnt out? I've had the switch out but didn't realize the lights were servicable...figured it had to be LED.

Also looked at my brake switch and all seems to be intact and the plunger working correctly.

That does help. Was the light working on your power switch? What did you pay for the ECU?

No, the light was NOT working on my switch until I changed it with the new one. The light DID work once I replaced the switch but still the cruise control didn't work. Not until I put the used cruise control module in did everything work. I got lucky at the Pick-N-Pull when I got it because I got other things and they did a bundled price for everything but I would guess I paid about $25.00 just for the cruise control module. Be careful though when you are looking to get one, take your old one out first and write down the numbers off of it as from the books a 1996 is different from the 1994-1995 but the one I got out of the 1996 was the correct part number for my 1995!
