Default 2000 Disco Oil Leak and Cruise Control Not working.

I recently purchased a 2000 Disco with 97k on the clock. I searched here before and after buying the Disco. I found that the valve cover gaskets, valley pan gasket and oil sending unit are prone to leaking. Are there any other areas I should check for leaks. I plan on cleaning the engine this week to pinpoint the leaks. I hope the rear main isn't prone to leaks.

My cruise control is also not working. I checked the fuse and it was fine. I checked the vacuum lines and they looked ok. Should I replace the lines and hope that fixes it or is there something else I should check?

Cheers!
Charles

Recheck your vacum lines, I put liquid tape on the ends of all of mine and replaced the real bad ones.
The #1 reason the cruise dosnt work on a DI is a vacum leak.
As far as the leaks go, everything leaks on a Rover. The oil PSI sensor is a easy $13 fix.
A 8mm 12 point socket to tighten the valve covers. It might be a 10mm, so get both. It must be a 12 point socket though.

So a quick tighten on the valve covers may fix the leak without replacing the gaskets? Who is a good vendor for the oil pressure sensor?

I'm not to worried about the cruise, but I'll probably replace all of the vac lines soon.

Yes a quick tighten of the valve covers might do the trick, start easy. Only go one turn at a time.
AutoZone for the oil PSI sensor, I bought mine last year, $13, $9 at AtlanticBritish, plus shipping, cheaper at AutoZone, no shipping charges. Its a PIA to reach, it is right above the oil filter.
Mine is a DI so your pricing may vary, shouldnt vary by much, same engine and all.

Thanks! I'll give the VCs a quick tighten, replace the oil PSI sensorand then clean the engine real well and keep an eye on it for the next couple of weeks.

Other areas prone to leaks are : front cover, oil pan ( which has to be done anyways when doing the front cover),head gaskets, and yes....rear main seal.

cruise control: please remove the hose and inspect thoroughly. it's tough to inspect when it's installed on the vacuum pump. i made that mistake myself. ps: short responses suck.

Thanks for the responses. I'll clean the motor and pinpoint the leaks then try fixing what I find. Hopefully it isn't the HG's or rear main.

Ohh and I am loving my new Disco!!
