Default Cruise and shocks questions

First, my cruise isn't working. I have checked the vacuum lines and they seem to be crack-free, the light on the switch comes on, and I can hear clicking when the brakes are applied, and (it seems) when I activate the "set" switch. Cruise ECU? I know with a little soldering a DII unit will work. Anything else to check before replacing the ECU?

Second: What shocks are recommended? I'm looking for a factory-like ride (read: soft and smooth), no lift, mainly on-road and light off-road use. I'm looking at the Boge units that are supposed to be OEM.

Thanks!

Okay, had the same issue with the cruise control. Found a NOS still in the box on line. Wasn't fun putting it in, but works perfectly. I went with the terrafirma standard shocks from AB. Liked the ride with the stock springs.

I second the bilstiens, I have them on mine and the ride is pretty comfortable. Mine look pretty beat and are quite rusted, but they have not failed yet so I will keep them until they do.

I've installed Bilsteins on a few previous vehicles, and they were too stiff for unloaded driving (although when hauling/towing heavy loads they were great), so I am hesitant to spend the money and find the same thing when installed on the Disco. This is our "comfortable riding" vehicle (the others - a Mini Cooper Clubman S with the optional sport suspension and a diesel F250) already ride stiff enough, so the softer the Disco is, the better. I think Bilstein makes a high-quality product, but I find their valving too aggressive for our roads, at least the ones I have tried.

Re: Cruise control
I bought multiple used ECU's from ebay etc where the sellers told me the ECU came from a working truck, so they assumed it worked. They never did. I finally emailed sellers first & finally found a seller who confirmed the ECU he was selling worked by trying it in his truck before he shipped. No cruise control problems since. (Knock wood)
