Question CV Joint replacement - parts list and experience

Hi,

I am looking to replace my driver side CV joint on my own. Besides buying the CV joint what else will I need to buy and replace since I am tackling this job so there are no surprises while I am doing this job?

Thanks!

you have a few trucks listed in your signature. Which one are you working on?

When I replaced a swivel ball I bought the parts from Trevor at Rovahfarm.com who was a great help and had good pricing. Call him up and he'll help.

Here is a parts diagram for a D1....

If a D1 or Defender here is a good video.

It's not a hard job, but messy as hell.
When you buy SEALS like the inner hub, stub axle, swivel ball, etc get the CORTECO brand!

Here is a decent write-up and pics > UpShift: DIY: Replace CV Joint and Swivel Ball Seals on a Range Rover Classic or Discovery I [RRC/D1]

One thing I would add is be mindful of the circlip on the end of the half shaft (axle) that secures it to the CV. When you remove the CV make sure the circlip is still on the half shaft and when you're tapping the half shaft back into the CV make sure you don't damage the circlip. It's easy to do and you'll know right away because the CV and half shaft won't be locked together without that circlip.
