Found this which explains how the alarm system is supposed to work on my 1999, and I am obviously not doing anything right. Not sure if my remotes work or not and they are probably not synched anymore. I will do some playing tomorrow. I know I have been trying to start without the remotes close to the keyswitch, which may be the whole problem..

I'm pretty sure all US LR's did not have the passive coil.

I don't have a remote for my '87, and it has always started fine. Still hoping that the replacement Security ECU does the trick, and I don't care if the remote is used to lock / unlock doors. If it doesn't work, I may be looking for other fixes or scraping a really nice truck. That would be a shame!

Replacement Green Alarm box should do the trick. I've seen some D1's that people have attempted to hack the wiring right at the alarm box itself. Make sure all those are good and you should be fine. Those Green Alarm boxes don't fail that often, but age is now a huge factor.

Box should be here sometime this week. Hopefully that will take care of a few issues! After that will be the ignition switch. Have to play with the key to get it to turn.

New security box showed up today.
Re-attached the black/orange wires
Truck turns over but doesn't start. Fuel pump runs, fuel at the fuel rail.

Noticed the tach doesn't move, but it doesn't move on my 97 until motor starts.
No alarm or res light at the dash anymore which is a good thing.
Crank Position Sensor??
Ignition lock? (has problems turning key)
Other ideas????

I'd check for spark first, and then it's either going to be the alarm box isn't synced or the CPS.

Tried the drivers door key reset and no change. I noticed the central locking also doesn't work. Is it possible the key wiring is not working and cause this problem? using the sill push pull **** also does not lock or unlock doors...

Door switch or wiring. Either are a blast. Where the loom passes from body through door is a good spot to check if not found in the first two. You’re bringing back so many good memories..... I don’t think it’s preventing the motor from firing though otherwise I believe the alarm light wouldn’t be off. Check the crank sensor wiring if nothing else, look for baked insulation near the exhaust. I’m shooting in the dark here because it could be something not so obvious.

Wiring at door hinge looks OK, nothing obvious without taking things apart. Hate to do that since the truck is sitting 1/2 block away on the street. I am wondering about the crank sensor since it didn't run, then ran, and now it won't. Sounds like a wire issue to me. Might be time for the strap to pull it closer to home to work on it.

The green box did make things a bit better, at least the alarm isn't going off and I was able to plug the horn fuse back in.

I got the green box from the truck pried open and there is a bit of corrosion under the grey connector, and inside on the circuit board.
