After about 8 year parking my Disco 300 Tdi (from may 1998) om my court in open air, vermin (mouses of what else ?) found their way to the bonnet hood liner. They crawled out a lot of material and leaving a great hole. So I gathered al the material in the engine bay and put it back in the hole - glue for sealing a lot of materials did help me. Then I related the black surface with strokes of black duct tape.
/Till now I had just one time -about 5,days later - to repair a new hole.
Now I put every evening two mousetraps in the engine bay.
The vermin did both time nor eat from nor touch the wiring looms nor their coloured plastic protecting harnasses.
Has someone experience to deal with this problem ? I rather don’t like to get away with the hood liner : I assume it’s helps to reduce the engine noise and helps to extinguish a fire in the engine bay.
Kind regards,
PierroDisco
Picture token after first attack ; you can see the black duct tape to cover the holes in the liner
Yes. I recently had the same issue. They will not quit coming once they have found the liner. The insulation is bedding for them and they will remove it and use it to nest. Best thing to do is remove it completely so they will not be attracted to the engine area. You absolutely do not want them to eat through wiring or anything else. The tape won't last either. It will fall off and end up getting caught in something.
I am ordering a replacement insulation for mine and using the original as a template. It will be held in place with an adhesive and not the round plastic clips. The replacement does not have the filling in it but rather a thin heat resistant foam. The hood liner is for heat. It keeps the hot engine heat from impacting the paint on the outside of the hood. May help some with noise but they are loud regardless.
