I understand you are just a rover guy but you should make some friends who are into more serious off roading and ride a long with them some time. It's a good time

A few pics of wheeling with some of my buddies...as much as I love wheeling the Rover sometimes I have more fun riding with these guys. I understand these are not anything like a street driven Disco but holy crap it is FUN! The green buggy is a competition rig and competes in several rock racing events...

The only place to wheel like that around here is 2hrs away and is a "pay to play" place.
Rocks and Valleys - Welcome
Our mechanic at work built a sand dune buggy out of a 3/4 ton Chevy truck frame, 4 buggy seats, roll cage, big tires (I dont know the size), 350w/4BBL and a 3-speed auto.
He trailers it to his parents cottage in the spring and then back home in the fall.
DNR - Silver Lake State Park Information
I am going to go up there next summer for a day, thats only 1.5hrs away from me.
Other than that we dont have big massive trails anymore for SUV's and the like, only quads and dirt bikes.
And the trails that are open you have to be careful on because the guys with the big jacked up Jeeps, Ford's etc. with the huge tires do burnouts on the trail where its soft or covered in water and dig huge ruts, you dont see the ruts and run up on your axles and are stuck, all four wheels off the ground, axles sitting in mud.
All you can do is spin your tires and wait for someone to yank you out, or winch out if you have one.
This happened to me years ago, all four wheels were 6" off of the ground, both diffs buried in wet sand and I had to walk almost 5 miles trough the woods in the rain to get help.
It was just a two track so going alone should not have been a issue, now I bring my Hi-Lift no matter what if I plan on leaving the pavement at all.

Eddie there are other DOT approved beadlocks.. Google is your friend but be prepared to pay $350 per rim at least.. Are you sure the hummer wheels have a DOT approved stamp?
