Angry DISCO 1 radio rewire... dome light cuts radio power...

so just for out my factory amps in th 96 disco and ran fresh wire for each speaker to the front...

took out the factory head unit, and put a ken wood harness on it...

violet wire=constant
green/ orange =acc
black = ground
red/green = interior lights

do i have this right!?

for some reason if i hook it up as per ken wood states... radio does not come on... interior dome also no go.

if i reverse the constant with acc the radio powers, but when you open the door or turn on the dome light, it shuts off radio...

all the time there is no light actually glowing on the dome, just acts as switch for the radio...

poured through all pages related and can't seem to find help...

thanks-

boy there are a massive amount of wires in these discos...

so was able to figure this all out:

violet is acc
green/orange is power

there was a ground off the relay that was causing a fuse to pop for the radio... this in turn blew the acc 20 fuse... going back and forth feeding power from a different source and causing even more problems. the red/green needs to be connected to the acc as well and everything finally works well.

electrical is always fun-

More fun if you have the RAVE electrical troubleshooting manual. The wiring diagrams include connector pin outs, wire colors, fuse numbers, etc. And even pictures of where things are.

I'm not sure if this helps: but BestBuy offers a service for $60 where they install car stereos. They will do it all, amps, speakers, you name it, they can do it. (MAYBE MORE THAN $60 FOR ALL) I know this because they are putting my stereo in when they get the correct wiring adapter that way its plug and play at the end of the month. Did you get a wire adapter?

Check your fuses............yeah I know it sounds strange.

I was having a similar issue with radio, dome light and clock. When a particular fuse is blown, things go haywire in a strange way.

Do a search on the forum posts, that's what led down the path.

Make sure you carefully read the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.
