Engine ticking
well the truck runs great i think...the cooling system is super stable too....altho it's seen some heat in its day.
it's the tick that's killing me. can't live with that.
not sure what to do really. it started with a rocker and now well....sounding large.

Do what I will probably do next. Find a decent condition GEMS 4.6 or 4.0 and rebuild it with a lumpy cam.. Then just swap it out and sell the old engine in parts or as a whole as a rebuildable. Mine makes some noise now but I can live with it cause it's only at idle and isnt terrible.

I'd live with it myself.
But then again I dont worry about much, if anything.
I live by the philosophy as long as it runs fine, dont worry about it.
Investigate the noise, as long as its not serious live with it, lifter noise isn't serious, engines will run for years upon years with lifter noise.
If you cant live with the noise then do like Jake said, buy a donor engine, have it rebuilt, then swap engines.
Or just have yours rebuilt.

They sell crower cams for Buick/LR.. Do some searching on discoweb theres all sorts of posts on them.
I recommend 50229

Yea they have everything you will ever need. He'll likely tell you to get the 229 like I suggested as well as the lifters. Let me know what he quotes for a price if you would please. Need to build/rebuild a couple engines..
yes !!!
and if that ends up being a(the) problem....remember when you order that there are LH and RH of these, (4LH & 4RH on each side) , also.... to add to the a$$ache you may pinpoint one or two, and by the time you get the rockershaft out of the head....the alluminum rocker may have cooled off enough and shrunk enough to make it hard to find the rattler.....just re-heat the suspected rocker with a heat gun or a 100watt bulb and it should loosen up the culprit enough to find it. They used to make solid steel rocker arms for these, maybe someone still has them.

Xceller...when you did that job...that's all you did or you did the camshaft and headgaskets at the same time. i just went from a $11 problem to rebuilding and engine myself....and parting the other one....which for a very brief moment in time was a potential reality. at least i didn't spend six hours on ebay/craigslist looking for one.
um just for fun i want to know too.
