Lost Rover,
The Discovery I will have more exhaust noise when it first starts if there is a leak from the head to the exhaust manifold.
When it gets hotter, the metal will expand and the noise may become less noticed.

You could get a 1/2 inch socket and ratchet and a 12 point socket and try to gently see if any of the exhaust bolts are loose.

From heat and tempering these can get brittle and snap. So, gently try to tighten one - only 10 degrees never any more unless it is really loose.

The other bolts on the manifold to "Y" pipe can snap off easy too.

Pulled the valve cover today all valves seem to be operating just fine from this point of view. I checked compression on cylinders 2,4,and 6. Cylinder 2 had about 175 lbs, 4 had a whopping 200 lbs and 6 had 0. I also noticed before I dug in to the motor I had popping in the intake on the beginning of a rev. Which is making me believe I have a head gasket go between 4&6 or an intake valve is burnt. Just hope I don't have burnt rings or piston since I don't want to pull the motor or wrestle that oil pan out just yet.
Which is the most likely scenario in anyone's experience?

The bad thing is they all seem to vary. There are a lot of postings regarding head gasket failure. Many of the areas are very close to one another and do tend to give out at certain points.

Good to go ahead and plan to do a hg job and get off to a good start with it.

The Classic would be interesting as well.

Any good spots to check for the parts. And if I order from over seas does it take forever in customs?

Google Atlantic British, Rovers North, British Pacific, BP Utah; and there are more. Not much need to order from aros the pond.

So finally had a day to dig into the engine. What I found was a failed head gasket. Probably the worst I've ever seen. It was burnt out between 6 and 8 pretty bad. I can't seem to be able to upload pictures on the thread but I will upload them in my profile.
