Default fan clutch wrench size

OK, Finally getting around to change out water pump but some confusion on wrench size for fan clutch. Is it 36 or 32? I'm seeing some claim 36 but also have seen some claim 32. I have to go get a wrench as none of the parts stores around me has one to loan out. I did get one and was told it was a 36 but not marked so not sure. if it was indeed a 36 it was to big...

The wrench size is a 36mm for the fan clutch ( ERR3443 ).

On my 98 Disco it's a 36mm but on a friends engine it was a 32mm. His had been worked on over the years and was the v-belt setup

You can easily get it off without a wrench if needed, a chisel and a whack with a hammer is usually enough to free them.

The 32mm viscous was on the earlier multi-belt setup found on pre-95 Range Rover Classic models and '94-'95 D90's. In the US the '94 and '95 DI's had the serpentine belt configuration just like all the rest and used 36mm viscous.

This is what you need
VISCOUS FAN TOOL, 32 & 36mm , RNT140 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts

When I changed the front cover on my D2 recently I ran into the same problem that's why I have one of these on order ?

In the meantime you can use a large adjustable wrench and a lot of liquid wrench?

12" adjustable wrench usually works well and good to have in your box.

1998 D1 was a 36mm. Just did the swap today. I tried to use the "whack it with a hammer" method described in various methods, but it didn't work. I went to AutoZone and borrowed their Ford fan clutch tool set; I used the large square wrench, but not as intended...I shoved one prong between a screw and the center to lock it down, and used a 36mm wrench - three seconds and done. I was so surprised it worked I dropped both wrenches into/through the engine bay
