fast blinker from corrosion after bumper mod, dim headlights
My rover has a bumper conversion and when I got a fast blinker I found the old blinker wiring and sockets were intact and stuffed under the rear bumper. One socket was toast and I had a friend take it on himself to cut the wiring and put some other sockets and bulbs as a fix to keep the fast blink to indicate a bulb out. Yet I still have a fast blinker. I think its because the bulb and socket he used are smaller, not sure what they came from but I'm guessing smaller bulb smaller draw, faster blinker. I don't really like this fix even if it works with bigger bulbs. I have seen online fast blinker solutions involving relays and resistors but mostly having to do with LED light conversions. I am hoping to get the exact best fix for this problem since I'm sure many others have dealt with the same type situation. seems like it would be a flasher relay swap rather than adding resistor(s). the flashers I see online are described by pin number and/or "LED" or 2-4 bulbs for example. They all have a technical description on them but I don't understand differences since two relays can be describe the same but have different looking technical labeling. I must have 8 bulbs but also, size matters. I dont know the sizes of my bulbs but I bet at least the side blinkers are smaller and I assume the relay would have to maintain voltage at (or above?) the total of my bulbs and begin rapid blink losing not less than the voltage of the smallest bulb in the system. If I figured out how many volts I'm using and the loss of my smallest bulb, what do I look for on the flasher to know its right?
I am realizing this topic seems loaded with questions for me. I assume the flasher works the same if voltage is added, or does it slow down. I tried hooking my trailer up when this first happened but it has LEDs and it did not seem to change the rapid flash. regarding flashers and trailers, it seems like a flasher would not generally detect if the trailers bulb was out but if the flasher slows down under more load, then if it slows, you know its working. What about the flasher for 2-4 bulbs, is that per side? If so, since I have three per side that might work but how does it go to rapid if one goes out since it seems like the range would keep it the same with either 2,3,or4 bulbs. I must not understand, range must have nothing to do with blinker speed since blinker bulbs can be different wattages and no matter what you couldn't have a range more than 1 if you want it to slow down with one bulb out. And does this rang mean you cant exceed it by say adding a trailer?
I must be clueless about flasher relays but I recall another aspect to the fast blinker, when I turn on the blinker a littler trailer comes on the dash for a split second. I don't think it did that when I signaled with normal functioning bulbs. What does this trailer icon indicate? I'm guessing it could mean different things...Okay just saw a thread on it, I just don't remember it coming on with my normal blinker situation and It sounds like it will tell me if a trailer light is out but since I have LEDs I would need to install a resister on my trailer. Sorry if this post was painful for you to read as it was for me to write...

The trailer icon means the vehicle senses a load as if the trailer is connected. If you use an aftermarket adapter for the trailers using the turn signal/brake bulbs, it will display all the time. You can get a fast flashing bulb if the headlight and turn signal grounds are connected and not attached to a decent ground so it grounds through the headlight, or a bad relay flasher. Offroading can cause body flex which can be tough on wiring and cause these problems.
