Default Gas gauge doesn't work

I assumed it was the fuel pump unit so I replaced it with a known working one. After installing gas gauge still is registering empty when there's half a tank.

Are there any relays or fuses I should be checking? Could there be a bad connection anybody have any experience with this?

no exp. on d1 but i have had sender wires corrode and pinch above the tank and not send proper signal. so with the sending unit part of the pump, i'd check that main plug 1st
