Default GEMS Engine??

Okay, I hav a quick & potentially dumb question. I am ordering part for my 98 Discovery I & for the life of me can't fugure out whether I have a GEMS engine or not. The data tag b the radiator says 4.0 & WRLXT40.6001 for the engine family. I did a search and cant get that number to come up with anything. Atlantic British has similar parts for the GEMS Engines and non-GEMS engines. don't want to order the wrong parts.

The real question that should be answered is: Whats the difference between the Gems and Bosch besides the air intake: That should be a sticky in the "write ups" "how to's" page.

Differences range from the ECU to the oil pan. Every sensor is different, the wiring harness is different, the injectors are different, the fuel rail is different, the coil is different, I could go on. While the blocks and heads are close and items like exhaust manifolds and starter are interchangeable there is very little that was carried over from GEMS to Bosch.

Not only is your engine GEMS (it stands for generic engine management system) but it also have the advanced evaporative emissions system as well. That evolution of GEMS came about in early 1997. It's something else you might need to know when ordering parts for your truck.
