Default Gunk on the swivels

I just drained and refilled my swivels and holy cow how much crap is on that thing. I basically mixed degreaser with pb blaster to get that crap off the bolts I needed to reach (drain, level, and fill plugs). I let it soak for about 10 minutes and went at it with a copper brush and then pressure washed after wards. A lot cleaner than it used to be but there has to be an easier way?

By the way, draining and refilling was uber easy especially with the cool tool.

If there is a great deal of it there, might that indicate need of replacing an oil seal? Did you go back with oil or the "00" grease?

I went with 00 grease, got 2 pints for $8.
When I drained the swivels, the..whatever was in there started to leak out.
I removed the drain plug, it oozed/drooled out, removed the level plug and it
oozed more, then I opened the filler and added more 00 grease till I saw the new fluid
come out of the drain plug. Closed that up, and filled till I saw it come out of the level
plug. Then I cleaned it all off and I have been watching for leaks all day. So far so good.

Have you made sure the vent line on your front axle is clear so that you're not blowing loub out the seals?

When you removed the level and fill plugs, you allowed air to get in and assist to drain the existing fluid.

Spraying it down good with Mean Green or similar also helps a lot. Getting it clean is crucial to a good fit with the tools making it easier to do.

My local lawn mower store, it's the only non-department type in town. If you want I can buy and ship it to you guys for $8 + shipping?

How do you check your vent line?

So spray, let it sit, wash it off?

What's the vent line?

So, why not fix the problem and reseal the swivels, if the ball surface is not pitted new seals will fix the problem.

Oh I am, I just need to do things one at a time. I'm a poor high school kid remember? :P

I just ordered the rotor stuff and wheel bearings. I can't afford the swivel ball kits and the swivel pin housing stuff yet haha

The vent line is in the center of each axle basically. There is a nut with a tube attached to the top of the nut. Loosen the nut, it will lift out of the axle and you can blow thru the tube to ensure it is clear. Both axles have one.
