We had around 8" of fresh here in Traverse City, temp went from 39 to 26 in a matter of hours, wet roadways to frozen snow covered and the ice created by warm tires compressing the snow. Large bands of heavy lake effect snow which effected my route that night. It's possible for me to have decent traction with 15 tons over the axles but for light autos it's dangerous. I had no choice but be a follower of large trains of autos that night. As a northern community most have no problem driving in severe snow storms except for the few elderly and those from downstate that don't get the extremes we do (warmer climate). They can slow rural two lane highways to a crawl. When I left work that night I had no problem in the Rover doing 55 with the diff locked. I left at 2am, zero traffic.
