Default High mileage service

I found the service records for my 97 disco with 97k on it, and there was a lot of work done on it roughly a year 1/2 / 6k miles ago and im wondering what i have left to do on the high mileage service.

heres whats been done:
-Spark Plugs and wires replaced
-Air Fliter Replaced
-Belt replaced
-coolant flushed
-Power steering was flushed and hose from reservoir to pump replaced
-Tranny fluid replaced
-T-case fluid replaced
-rear diff fluid replaced
-and oil was changed no less than a week ago
-the head and valve cover gaskets were also replaced
-the lifters were replaced and a valve job and new valve seals
-right side exhaust manifold was replaced
-front crank seal was replaced
-Cam sensor o-ring replaced
-Steering dampner replaced
-Rear brake pads and rotors replaced
-rear hub grease seals replaced

all this work came out to like 4k because it was done by a indie dealer, i was very shocked to find the documentation on this since i figured the owner was just blowing smoke when he said he had a lot done on it recently, especially since i only paid $500.00 for this disco.

and front swivels (CV) oil/grease. And drive shaft grease. Vac hoses. Radiator and heater hoses. Clean out vent lines from diffs and other under truck items (banjo bolts get full of mud, fumes from evaporating oils force oil out seals (like the rear axle seals)). Interesting that he had replaced damper, perhaps he was having onset of the Death Wobble (not caused by damper but can be covered up by it). The heat gauge is not to be trusted, use a scanner or Ultra Gauge plugged into the OBDII port to see the real temps. Any noise like water rushing thru pipes nder the dash?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. Sounds like you got a great deal, and we do have eccentric previous owners (one sold a D2 with 117 actual garage kept miles for $2000). But the other end of the spectrum is the PO who dumps the Rover because he is tired of it and SWMBO wants it off the property. Many times related to an engine problem or serious quirk. Like slipped liner, cracked block, etc. Why would some one in snow country dump a 4WD that they had put $4000 into for $500?

With a 97, which is the beast I have, there is no end to parts that need to be serviced or replaced, time eats them all. Radiator flush may not have done the whole job, because an old rad can have so much calcium buildup that you have to take it to a shop and have the side tank unsoldered and the rows "rodded" out. A good test is to measure temps on the fins, top to bottom, if in good shape it should be no more than 10F spread. Lower rows fill up with gunk over time and you end up with 1/2 the radiator actually functioning. Good time to check your viscous fan clutch.

But your are thousands of dollars ahead of most of us.

Yeah im still going to go over it with a fine tooth comb, i am kinda ocd when it comes to my vehicle and this one is going to me my vehicle/project so i want to make sure everything is good to go before i start modifying it. As far as the previous owner i dont know if just losing his job had anything to do with it, but he was def looking for a fast sale. Also the problem i posted about at highway speeds it feeling like its dropping a cylinder that is probably the VSS most likely isnt new and if he dumped 4k into it and still had that going on maybe he just got frustrated and desperate.

You might look in the sticky at the top of this section for a service list I put together as a guide for any major service.

The owners manual covers the various items that need attention based on mileage.
If you don't have a copy (be sure to look under the seats) it's on the RAVE CD.

If it's a 5-speed drain the ATF (if that's what was used, or you don't know) and replace with MTF (Redline MTL is what I use).
I'd pull the steering damper and see how it drives. A lot of people replace them to correct steering incidences. Not all mechanics know any better, so don't assume there are no issues.

it was atf and its not a 5-speed, it states in the invoice that the dampner was blown and leaking.

Ok. I'd still go through the service list. But my mistake, it's in the PDI & Maintenance section of the RAVE. There should be a separate list included with the actual owners manual though. Use the 96 thousand mile service (unless you have evidence the 72k and 84k ones were done) as it's more comprehensive. Ignore the "renew catalytic converters" however.

Yeah, then definitely do from the 96k service what wasn't done.
I meant to say also, check the thermostat. It should say 88c (if a LR thermostat from one of the parts places) or 180F from a local parts store.
