Default Hood won't open

Went to check my coolant this morning because I did my water pump two nights ago and when I pull the hood release it pulls easy and comes out about two inches then stops without releasing the latch.

I searched but couldn't find anything on how to get the hood open. Once I have it open I'll be able to figure out what's wrong with it but with the hood shut I'm kind of stuck.

I was planning on going to get my emissions test out of the way today and I'm sure I need the hood to open for that, so thank you for any replies.

Default this is not good

I believe you will need to gain access from the front...You are going to have to access the hood latch from the grill. Not pretty and not esay to do without damage I would guess. There was a thread on this a while back... Lemmie go see if I can find it for you.

I listed a reminder for everyone to do a lube and adjustment on their hood release cable after I had to gain access to mine. Took a long pry bar and some gentle tapping to bend the metal box away from the latch assy to pop the latch. NO FUN AT ALL. After gaining access I removed the cable and lubed it liberally. Reinstalled and adjusted and no longer have a issue.

I've noticed that my cable is getting difficult to pull.

What should I use and where do I wanna lube?

Thanks

If your cable is getting hard to pull and your latch is lubed, buy a new cable and replace it before you break the current one.
To get into the latch, pull the drivers head light assembly out thru the front, reach up and cut the cable as far to the right as you can, then get a hold of the cable and pull to open the hood.

Sometimes just lifting on the hood will pop it open once you pull the latch from inside.

As for lubing the cable, use silicon spray, lube the latch and everything else that moves.
Also lube all of your door latches, hinges, and most of all remove the Land Rover emblem from the cargo door and lube the handle and latch.
