This is not earth shstterimg, but I thought it came out nice so I'm posting. Wired to the rear wimdow switch, cut out the back of the ashtray and epoxied I'm the aluminum face plate. Now the kids will be happy.
Nice! When you say it's wired to the rear window switch, does that mean your rear window switch doesn't work anymore? Or did you just make it a parasitic connection type of deal?

I tapped into the passenger side rear window switch. Kind of seat of the pants witing, but I basically looked at all the switches, found a pair that looked like 16 gauge wire and spliced in. Most of the wiring was smaller, maybe 18 gauge. It shouldn't make any difference, though, since the amp draw from the USB is neglible.
Looks nice! I was thinking of doing this to my D2 also.
I'm also installing one in the way back, just below the courtesy light. It will be a combo, with a cigarette lighter/USB charger so I have a 12v source in the truck.
