Thats what I thought too. But after driving around for 3 days with a 2k rpm idle, I caved and took it to the dealer to reset. Not bad, took 10mins, got charged a full hr, at $125/hr. Rapists.

I *believe* the adaptive memory is hard stored, so if it sits an extended period with no power, the ecu can pick up right where it left off.

But, I did try cutting the power but only for a half hr.

Usually you can trick (force) the ECU into accepting the new IAC.

Turn key on, turn key off, unplug IAC, turn key on, plug in IAC. Repeat until the ECU corrects it's baseline. I have done this to countless vehicles when replacing an IAC and it works, though some are a PITA and require more magic than others.

Default Iacv

The plastic is somewhat durable however it will slide off easily. I will take pics and post. I will also try to force the ECM to relearn. I tried taking to tip off before but the idle was way too high.

Did you use a new gasket when reinstalling the IACV?

I just read thru the steps in the RAVE and they say to use a new gasket. Do not know how critical that may be.

In the Rave, item #8 (IACV) appears to be pointing to the throttle position sensor. What gives? The part I'm looking at on my disco is right in that spot and held in place with two Allen screws, what is it? IACV or TPS?

The two allens hold in the TPS, the IACV is right beside it and has 2 7/32 bolts. I just did mine today.

I went to 200% on the screen and you can see the details much better on that illustration.

Oh I see it now, it's just down and to the right. I still think the illustration is wrong even at 200% zoom, that just proves this manual was written by spiteful ewoks...

I think I'll clean that some time next week, that is one sensor I've never cleaned. How delicate is it, will carb cleaner hurt it?

I pulled the IAC, removed the plastic cap and re-installed. I used the old gasket with no problems as it was in good shape. I did have to re-set the ECU a couple of times by un-plugging the IAC and re-starting the vehicle. Thanks for all the input!

hi higgs-
i 've been having prob. w/slight rough idle on "03 l.r. disco, since cleaning maf sensor and throttle body. used your trick of unplugging iac valve, and it worked like a charm-MUCH THANKS to you! also, did i understand correctly, that an intermittent oil light at idle, could be remedied by this trick which makes the ecu correct its baseline?
p.s.--is it possible to clean iac valve? i know it's an elec. motor, but is there part of it which can be sprayed out w/maf sensor cleaner?
again, really appreciate your fix.
