Does anyone know if the interior wood trim in our disco's are real wood or just plastic? Mine are UV faded really bad and I would like to refinish them in my woodworking class at school, if they are real wood.

 

If they are wood, you could go for that hand rubbed oil finish... (diff, tranny, swivels, crank seal) (lol)

 

In the Discovery, they are plastic.

You could always make your own wooden ones in a woodworking class and choose the grain and finish to suit yourself.

 

If you develop a good method, there is a market for that with Mercedes owners. Their "zebra wood" cracks and splits etc., especially on center console.

 

You could do some exotic grains and finishes. There a ton of different woods out there. I have a friend who let his wife talk him into an older RR as their "Business" car. He was a developer and she felt they needed something nicer than his pickup. The wood by the window was faded so she told the Dealer to "fix" it. He got a bill in the thousands to remove and refinish trim.

He was shoocked as he had several carpenters that worked for him that could have easily done it in a day.

 

It is real wood with a "secret" coating.

At that price, I would much rather make my own trim and save $500.

 

Its real wood veneers. If its faded I would try to wet sand and buff

 

Aren't the stock ones plastic and real wood available? If not they sure fooled me. I have the small pieces off of mine on the dash, if it is veneer, it is heavily encapsulated with what appears to be plastic.

I saw HP TV today, they had a 1951 Chevy truck they were redoing with the most exotic wood and metal treatments I have ever seen in the pickup bed.

 

If you are talking about the original wood trim pieces above the glove box, to the right of the steering column and on the mirror adjustment switch, I have those in stock in good condition. They're held on by screws and can be replaced in minutes. Let me know if you're interested.
