I will add again to NOT mix your coolant with the oils. A little brake fluid is ok, but shouldn't be mixed either. I have a partnership in an oil recycling business, and when antifreeze is mixed in, it is a bear to get out. Lots of the oil is mixed with diesel and used as fuel in heaters. Even a drop of antifreeze will hose things up. The antifreeze will also contaminate the water you get from pickups and makes it really tough to dispose of.

We are spending a ton of money to build an oxidizer so we don't have to pay someone else to dispose of the water. The main thing that will screw us up is antifreeze. We pick up machining coolant and we can skim most of the oil off the water, but if even a cup of antifreeze reaches the mixture, it is waste and we can't burn it.

Keep your antifreeze separate and be aware you may have to pay to dispose of it separately.

Firestone said they will take it, so I'm bringing it today after school.

As long as you take it to a mass merchant or a quick lube mixing coolant with the oil does not matter.
It will go to be recycled not used for fuel.
If you give it to the farmer down the road who uses it to heat his barn in his waste oil heater then yes, you must keep the coolant separate.
But the chain stores and quick lubes and the like all get paid for their used oil and when it is recycled it does not matter.

as I said, I have a business that picks up the oil from the "mass merchants" (Wal-Mart) and quick lube places. We fine the crap out of them if any coolant enters our system. If they dump it in the bins, they get charged.

Ask first. Places that contract through folks like Safetykleen are less likely to get hit, or even noticed. I can tell you that if you are within 100 miles of Tulsa, I will charge you...

AND you usually have to sign a sheet when you drop it off, so they can come back to you, as an individual.

ASK THE FACILITY BEFORE YOU MIX AND DUMP. that is all I am saying. I don't care what you have heard or what other people do. Anyone ever hear of Superfund?? research before you dump.

I used to work for Safety-Kleen I ran the used oil truck, the vac truck, picked up all kinds of HAZMAT...I've done it all.
And yes I know all about the Superfund.

And I always research before I dump, I make sure there is enough on the roll.
