Stay away from that truck, a new radiator is $700. You can have it rebuilt for $200 or so.
Water pump is another $100 or so.
Check the belt routing, in the tech section there is a diagram of the routing.
Print it off, go drive the truck again and check the routing.
If it is wrong the water pump will can actually spin backwards and if that happens it will overheat.
You might be able to use the $700 radiator as a bargaining tool.

EDIT:Offer him $1000 cash, flatbed it home and then we will go from there. The bumper alone is worth $300, the lift $200, the tires another $200.

My guess is that the owner has already found the the problem with the top hose, which is probably a stuck t-stat. He's probably already overheated it and is trying to get it off his hands before it goes completely south.
As per Spike's recommendations, proceed with caution. Keep in mind that these engines are aluminum, and it's got a known cooling problem. It doesn't take a whole lot of overheating for the motor to get trashed.

I was reading the stickyiscovery I tech and noticed that these cars require 91 ocetane fuel. are you guys running 91?

 

Yes...well...at least I am.

 

No I do not run 91 octane, I run 93 octane.
