Valve cover gaskets have little metal inserts around the area where the bolt goes through to prevent over-compression. They tend to fall onto the rockers when removing the old gasket. Take care.
Many use Rotella oil.
Many use Rotella oil.
The rockers pivot on a hollow shaft, oil enters the rockers through that shaft. The shaft is bolted to the head through the shaft onto cast blocks. Great design when oil gets cooked it hardens and gets blocked from flowing past the mount bolts. When you change your rocker box gaskets remove the shafts and let em soak in solvent. Remove the rockers in order and soak them, they become carbon occluded and they oil the push rod pocket and dribble oil down to the lifter pockets. The lifters if not oiled well will stuff. If you can remove those (high mileage lifters mushroom with the cam lob contact) you can solvent soak those too, again in order otherwise you'll get some really interesting wear on the cam that'll have you yanking it sooner than later.
If you wanna see what I just said before you pop the lids download the "Rave". Walt has the link to the Rover Service Manual in his signature (Rave).
Oil pans are notorious for leaking, Right Stuff does the trick whereas a real gasket is a waste of lots of time and money.
